We’ve talked a lot about a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science and at this point you must know exactly what each of them studies and their differences; however, do you have any idea about the courses you’ll have to take during 4 years of career? Knowing the curricula of your bachelor is key to make the right decision for your professional future.
I mean, you already know that if you opt for arts you’ll study languages, social science, communication and subjects alike. Helping you improve how you interact with other people while developing analysis skills when faced to certain situations.
But if you rather focus on science you’ll have a reduced study field in which you’ll specialized in a certain area so you can learn everything you can about to a deeper level. You’ll become a more much analytical professional, with skills mainly focused on research.
I know it can be a little hard to make a decision, that’s why we want to help you understand a bit more how these two bachelor works and what a better way to do it than describing the courses you’ll have to take. Keep in mind they can change according to you major specialization and the university you choose.
Bachelor of Arts
Most of its courses focus on liberal arts and social sciences. The highlight of this bachelor is that it allows you to have a wider vision of the world while exploring your passions just before you pick a major. These are some of the classes you’ll have to take:
- Humanities
In order to have a better understanding of the world you live in and how it has developed, you’ll study the human being through literature and history while you work on your skills to analyze and evaluate evidences. During this course you’ll also understand the role race, gender and power play in the world.
- Language
Learning about your language is essential in order to understand where we come from, our cultural roots and traditions. And if you’re studying a new language connecting with its history will help you understand it even better. During your Bachelor of Arts you’ll have to demonstrate your appreciation of classic and modern language.
- Rhetoric
Talking in public is more important than you think and that’s why you’ll learn about the varieties of speech discourse and practice their presentation. A good speaker requires a high level of persuasion and control over their public, skills you’ll work throughout your career.
- Philosophy and Religion
The spirituality of men and their moral inclination will also be essential in your education. Why? Through ethic and religious expositions you’ll be able to develop a critical reasoning to help you make better decisions when it comes to moral issues; besides understanding the behavior of men within society.
- Math and Science
No, there’s no escaping math and numbers. It might not be your thing but having a basic notion of how it works is more important than you think. It’ll help you sharpen abilities to use and interpret quantitative information and solve different problems using mathematical reasoning. And through science you’ll understand the natural world surrounding you and the impact men has had in it.
- Social Science
In this particular course you’ll focus on every institution created by men and its civic behavior in society. You’ll have a deeper understanding of the foundations of society, culture, and government and how it has evolved until now. As you can see, a Bachelor of Arts exclusively studies the interaction of men with elements surrounding them and their capacity to create.
Bachelor of Science
Unlike a Bachelor of Arts, when you opt for science you’ll study more specialized courses where deep and constant research is key to understanding why things function a certain way and finding a logical explanation. Thus, the skills you’ll develop will be oriented to analysis, logic and interpretation.
- Mathematics
Obviously, when you specialize in science you’ll need to know deeply about mathematics. That’s why during your bachelor you’ll take courses like calculus and analytical geometry from its foundations to the most advanced topics. Developing logic skills will be essential to understanding how these sciences work and how to apply them.
- Computing
When we talk about computer we don’t mean just knowing how the equipment works, on the contrary you’ll learn programming in its different types, computational thinking, introduction to systems etc. The world of computer science is wide and if you choose it as your major, you better be ready.
- Statistics
We’ve all at some point studied statistics in school, right? Well, during your Bachelor of Science you’ll have to go deeper; knowing its basic methods, variations and how it works. Remember this branch studies variability and follows the laws of probability, being applied in different study fields.
- Laboratory Science
These particular courses of the curricula will depend on the major you choose to take and goes from biology, physics, and geology to mechanics. As you may imagined these are practical courses where you’ll have to make experiments on your own to actually learn the subjects. Cool, right?
