Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) is proud to introduce our Center for Global Education (CGE). The CGE responds to peruvian students’ needs by offering a wide range of choices to help students to achieve their global education goals under a collaboration agreement with Broward College.
At CGE USIL, you will obtain the same degrees (bachelor's/associate degree) from the universities as you would if you were studying in the U.S.
This e-book is intended to guide students interested in applying to the Center for Global Education. It provides first-hand information about the advantages of an international degree and serves as a guide for anyone wishing to participate in an international education program. Let’s go global.

If you're considering student life abroad, you probably already have many reasons for wanting to participate in an international program. Here are a few tips for accomplishing this goal.
Are you good at English but afraid of losing ground? This could happen if you aren’t reviewing your lessons or continuously practicing it. Don't worry. Fortunately, you can improve your English fluency to prepare for an international program like CGE USIL by following these 4 tips:
1. Challenge yourself with many resources
Many online resources have English language exercises to help you improve your fluency, and most are free. Also, listening to podcasts is a great way to enhance your listening skills. Bear in mind that apps can be powerful tools to improve your pronunciation and conversation skills, as well as to help you get used to thinking in English.
2. Movies and music
For many people, this is the most fun way to learn and retain a language. Maybe you are wondering if you can really improve your English by listening to music and watching movies. The answer is YES. We recommend you binge-watch movies with English subtitles to note and remember words not ordinarily used in academic settings. If you are musically inclined, creating your own playlist with lyrics for a karaoke party helps as well.
3. Apps for learning English
Using apps is one of the best ways to learn English. Learning and practicing a new language will almost feel like playing a game. These are some of our favorites:
4. Listen to podcasts
Listening to English language podcasts is an excellent way to learn English and improve your listening skills quickly. Check out these 3 that come highly recommended:
However, you don’t have to focus only on language or grammar-themed podcasts. iTunes and Android podcast apps feature some great content in English such as TED Radio Hour, based on the popular TED Talks that have gone viral on the web. Serial, the podcast with the most listeners in the U.S., follows a case of an unsolved murder. Lastly, This American Life an NPR podcast that tells stories about America and its people.
Do you struggle with time management? Do you often think there just aren’t enough hours in the day? One interesting option for college students is using apps.
They are convenient because there are many you can download to help you free up your schedule and generally be more organized and efficient. Best of all, you can use them on your smartphone, which is something most people usually carry.
Check out these 4 free apps to help you focus, streamline, and increase your productivity all at once.
The purpose of the ACCUPLACER (CPT) is to determine accurate course placement based on the student's skills and abilities. ACCUPLACER is an integrated system of computer-adaptive assessments designed to evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
The ACCUPLACER (CPT) is adaptive. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question in the order it is given. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.
The test is untimed, but the average time to complete all three sections in one sitting is approximately 2 hours. A student’s scores determine appropriate course placement. Allot approximately 40 minutes per subject area
Through the CGE USIL, you can experience the United States academic system, which is different from the Latin American education system. The United States system has numerous advantages that make it effective and innovative. We have compiled some of the benefits of the system, which is considered among the best 20 in the world.
Each student designs and organizes his or her own curriculum: this system adapts to your interests. You choose your own schedule, since many subjects are offered at different times on different days of the week. It is easy to earn a dual degree in very different areas. There is no reason to study only one area of knowledge.
Critical thinking is enhanced: students are not expected to memorize and repeat what the teacher says, but rather they are encouraged to develop their own ideas and discuss them, using the knowledge acquired in class. This way, a student's ability to develop his or her own point of view is strengthened through debate.
Student life in the U.S.: If you choose to transfer to a university in the U.S., there will be many opportunities to get involved in life-enriching activities and events. As a student, you will be able to make new friends from across the country and around the globe. You can also join clubs and pursue your interest in different areas including politics, religion, art and sports, to name a few.
While there are many academic systems where you can transfer to finish your bachelor’s degree, we will focus on the highlights of the US and UK systems.
|
US |
UK |
Time required to earn a degree compared to the cost |
4 years, lower cost per year |
3 years, higher cost per year |
Focus |
This first two years of undergraduate study focus on general education requirements. Many students do this at a community college which allows them to save money and take more time to decide on their major. |
Students usually must choose a major and enroll in a bachelor’s degree program the first year of study. |
Number of Universities |
4,140 |
about 130 |
Total cost per year (tuition, housing and food, fees) |
$20,000- $40,000 |
$33,000 - $42,500 |
Total |
$80,000 - $160,000 |
$99,000 - $127,500 |
As you can see, whether you plan to finish in the US or the UK, the costs are similar.
Having a degree from the United States or the UK does not limit your options. Believe it or not, many employers in the UK prefer graduates with American degrees and many employers in the US also prefer graduates with UK degrees. This is because having an international degree emphasizes the versatility of your education.
Teachers are mentors, guides and examples for their students, so teacher–student relationships are important for students’ professional development. True leaders don’t create followers; they create more leaders.
For this reason, the best teachers certified by our international partners (University of South Florida and Broward College) are teaching at the Center for Global Education (CGE). This gives you the opportunity to obtain an education with the highest standards.
Curriculum 100 % in English
A highly competitive level of English is required in a demanding job market. As everyone is aware, today there is a strong focus on English, as it is the universal language spoken, read and written in many parts of the world. For this reason, students with a high level of English proficiency will have an advantage in their future careers. At the CGE, classes are taught 100% in English by local and international teachers.
In addition, our partners’ courses are taught using the same books and following the same curricula as in the United States.
Personalized instruction (small class size)
You may be surprised to know that class sizes are usually small. This makes class sessions more effective, as it permits greater participation. It also provides the advantage of collaborative learning with constant feedback from teachers.
